About the Song "One" & Jack Bruce

  • Album: Out of the Storm
  • Year: 1974
  • The song is in the key of D minor.

  • Jack Bruce was a Scottish bassist, composer, and singer known for his work with the psychedelic rock super group Cream, as well as with bands like Manfred Mann, and with the power trio West, Bruce and Laing. He was considered an underrated solo artist, particularly for his work in the late 1970s. "One" is one of his works from the period when he was exploring proggy sounds.

  • Jack Bruce is most famous for playing the Gibson EB-3 Bass which became his signature instrument with Cream and helped define their sound. He also played a Fender Bass VI early in his career, which he used to record the band's debut album Fresh Cream. In his later years, he favored long-scale fretless basses, including a Warwick Thumb signature model.

  • Jack mainly used 100-watt Marshall Super Bass heads and 4x12 cabinets during his playing days with the Cream. He used Hartke 3500 heads and cabinets during his later years.
